Always a lover of crafts, sewing, quilting, cross stitch, visual arts and gardening, I bravely (and maybe foolishly)chose to begin art lessons in 2020. In my studio in Aiken SC, under the direction of Carolyn Bohn, I started the journey. I worked primarily pastels with a little watercolor until we relocated to the Upstate in October 2022. I began classes in acrylics at Backstreet Gallery in Fountain Inn with Joe Lowery and Gretchen Ossner. I am constantly learning and enjoying the process. I find that art is both challenging and calming. It has taught me patience, willingness to accept both failure and success, and a different perspective on the beautiful world around us.
Having grown up in South Georgia, I enjoyed the flowers, trees, and all things outdoors and natural. I tend to lean toward those kinds of scenes when painting. Life before retirement consisted of degrees from Georgia Southwestern College, University of Georgia, University of South Carolina and a long career in education, including teacher, guidance counselor, assistant principal, and ultimately Director of Human Resources in a large school district. Life is good and I am blessed to be supported by friends, extended family, my local family (daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter) and most of all my sweet husband who lives with me and always says yes to help this artist wanna-be. I hope you enjoy my works as much as I have enjoyed making them.
